Elegant Lunch Day

This past week, students were able to participate in an "Elegant" lunch.  Tables were complete with flowers and horderves were sampled. A special element was the music provided by Jane Hanson and Teresa Bergene.  The lunch and days leading up to the event provided students the chance to review and learn about etiquette.

Sibley PTO on Facebook

In a continued effort to keep you in the know, your PTO has created a Facebook page.  This page is simply another way to keep you updated about all of the activities.  Sibley's PTO does great work and wants to be sure that you have every opportunity to stay informed and be involved.  Yes, our schedules are alwasy busy but please look for ways to help so that your child continues to benefit from the additional support they provide.  Fun Night is coming and they could alwasy use parents to help with this event.  Thank you PTO. If you are interested and a Facebook user, search for Sibley School PTO to get updates.

I Love to Read Month

Mary Bleckwehl visits with 4th and 5th graders

Instilling a love for reading is something that we do daily.  In addition, February is "I Love To Read Month" as more of a national celebration.  As part of our reading celebration, we were treated to an author visit on the 11th.  Mary Bleckwehl  visited us to talk about her books and the process that it involves in publishing.  Mary is a Minnesota author living in Northfield, MN.  It was exciting to see the questions asked about the writing process itself, the artisitic work in illustrating a children's book, and the actual binding process for taking an idea and printing the books themselves.

Sibley will also be giving away books to students this month as well as having community leaders join us for a day of reading.  That event will be more towards to the end of our month as we transition into March for Read Across America Day.  This event is always close to and in celebration of Dr. Seuss birthday (March 2nd.).

What can you do at home? Continue to spend time reading to and with your children.  After all, instilling a love for reading is not something done in a month.  Instead, it must be a fun priority modeled by adults daily all year.

After posting the most recent picture and links about Prairie Fire, I was reminded of the following link and AL Tribune article about our high school's One Act Play.  Did you know that 4 of the 5 students pictured in that article attended Sibley and participated in Prairie Fire? How cool is that?!

Well done Sibley Prairie Fire Particpants

Last Friday and Saturday, Sibley's performances of Alladin were well received by students and families alike.  Congrats to everyone on their hard work.  Giving students an opportunity to participate in theater is something we are thrilled to be able to do here at Sibley.  We are also fortunate that this experience continues to be supported and funded by our PTO.  We are already looking forward to next year, so stay tuned.  A special thanks to Jane Hanson (phy-ed.), and Teresa Bergene (music) for their long days and commitment to the program this year.  Thanks also to Alliant Energy as Sibley's PTO was awarded a grant by Alliant to help assist in funding this great event. Some additional pictures can be found at the following link to some of the practicing that had taken place earlier in the week.
