Mary Bleckwehl visits with 4th and 5th graders |
Instilling a love for reading is something that we do daily. In addition, February is "I Love To Read Month" as more of a national celebration. As part of our reading celebration, we were treated to an author visit on the 11th. Mary Bleckwehl visited us to talk about her books and the process that it involves in publishing. Mary is a Minnesota author living in Northfield, MN. It was exciting to see the questions asked about the writing process itself, the artisitic work in illustrating a children's book, and the actual binding process for taking an idea and printing the books themselves.
Sibley will also be giving away books to students this month as well as having community leaders join us for a day of reading. That event will be more towards to the end of our month as we transition into March for Read Across America Day. This event is always close to and in celebration of Dr. Seuss birthday (March 2nd.).
What can you do at home? Continue to spend time reading to and with your children. After all, instilling a love for reading is not something done in a month. Instead, it must be a fun priority modeled by adults daily all year.
