Reading Corps

2012-13 marks the 4th year that Sibley will be hosting a MN Reading Corps Member and its third year for hosting a Volunteer Coordinator position.  As a host school, Sibley provides an internal coach to guide and assistance the RC member in maintaining a caseload of about 15 students who are just slightly below their grade level targets for fluency.  A student working with our internal coach will be provided 1-1 interventions daily in one of several interventions designed to target fluency improvement.  These students are monitored using Aimsweb to assure the success of the intervention or if another is needed.  Once a student reaches their grade level target, they are existed, and then monitored closely periodically to assure that they remain above their grade level target.  Our Volunteer Coordinator works at scheduling and recruiting members of our community to partner with us in helping students achieve reading success.  Community volunteers provide extra reading opportunities to our children and they are also trained in two interventions to assist with reading improvement.
