Weather and Prairie Fire

I have not had a winter like this in awhile.  Yesterday marked our 5th day without students due to extreme cold.  Making decisions about when to have school and when not to have school are not taken lightly that is for sure.  I am certainly looking forward to a bit of normalcy as we start back at it again today with students.  Today also starts our practice and preparation for Beauty and the Beast.  Yes, Prairie Fire Children's Theater will be joining us again to have upwards of 60 students prepare for the end of the week's performances for our parents, friends, and community.  What is Prairie Fire Children's Theater?  Take a look here to find out more.  Each year, we have been thrilled to host their directors as they teach our students about play production and acting.  Thanks to our PTO for their continued support of this great opportunity.  The arts are an important part of the educational experience for students and Sibley makes it a priority to start that early.  We are thrilled to see Sibley "graduates" get their start in theater as a large number of them continue when they enter the high school.

This Friday is our rescheduled game night due to cold temperatures last week that forced a shorter school week.  We hope to see you there!

Family Game Night update

January 10th is our Game Night.  This is an opportunity to get out and have some fun with other Sibley Families.  Food will be provided by our PTO.  In the past, our games have included "Minute to Win It", and "Family Feud."  We will also have board games available: Sorry, Trouble, Checkers, Chess, and Boggle to name a few.  In addition, this year, several teachers will be providing math specific games that you can learn and continue to play with your child at home.  As an educator, we want to be sure that you are able to support your child in the area of math, just like reading.  Come learn the following fun math games that help reinforce computation and number sense.  Our list currently includes: Show It/Hide It, Time Match, Name that Number, Fact Card Pile-Up, and a money games.  Math is fun, and it takes all of us as adults to make sure our students also see it the same way.  See you this Friday night from 6-8pm.
