Llama Llama Red Pajama

Yesterday, October 6th, students in all four elementary schools read the book Llama Llama Red Pajama.  It coincided nicely with our Homecoming Week Pajama day theme, but it was really meant to be part of a record breaking event known as "Read for the Record", where students across the country read the same book on the same day.  Yesterday, it was estimated that over 2 million participated.  Not only did students get a chance to read and have fun with the book and its story, but every school was visited by a real Llama.  As Reading Corps host school, this is one of the neat things that is organized for our students and is meant to get students excited about reading and learning.  Did you know that the avg. adult Llama weighs 250-400lbs and lives for about 20 years? Llamas have been around for over 6000 years and have been used for packing and other work related activities associated to that of a horse.  The upside to owning a Llama is that a Llama can be as easy to care for as our other "best friend," the dog.
