2013 Draws to a Close

It is hard to believe that just a few months ago, we were starting the school year.  Now, the Holiday Season is upon us.  Before you know it, it will be January of 2014!  Recently, we had a fabulous K-2 winter performance.  The kids had a wonderful time as did all of us watching them sing and dance.  There is no doubt that Sibley's concerts are a real team effort, and we thank you for noticing that.  Several commented this year about how fun it is to see this event come together.  Last week were conferences and our PTO's book fair.  Our attendance rate was high, and our book fair well attended.  Thank you for attending both of those.  Remember that communication together can happen at any time of the year.  So, if you have questions about your child's learning development, see or call us anytime.  As you know, getting kids to be readers and love reading is something that we are passionate about. I realize that for some, this life skill can be a bit more challenging.  Regardless of your child's current reading level, we should both be working hard together to bring about growth in them.  As parents, providing time for your child to read outside of school daily is imperative for this growth to occur.  If you are having a hard time making that happen, consult with us and we will help give you further ideas about how to make this happen.  In every classroom, teachers work with students in small reading groups.  In those groups, students read books at their level, and work on strategies and skills within those groups that they are working on as an entire classroom.  Many of those books are placed in a student's reading "book box."  Those books should be coming home for you to use with your child.  If that is not happening, please inquire with us about it.  Reading and re-reading, like any activity, will only allow us to improve the more we practice it.  Have a great Holiday.  See you in 2014.
