Prairie Fire Theater time clarification on Saturday

To parents of students involved in Prairie Fire Children’s Theater:


The performances for Alladin and His Magic Lamp will be on Friday night at 7:00PM and Saturday morning at 10:30AM. Students should be at Southwest an hour before the performance, 6PM on Friday and 9:30AM on Saturday.

*Please note the sheet that you originally received listed the Saturday performance for 7:00PM which is incorrect. Saturday’s performance is at 10:30AM.

Readers Theater Continues

Every year and in every elementary school students are treated to Reader's Theater.  What is that you ask? Readers Theater is a dramatic and fun reading of a book or even a play.  It takes the complication and planning out of large scale staging and set design of theater and brings the fun of the read, right to you.  Today,  students had a wonderful time as they were read to by volunteers from our community.  Thank you to our readers for making this such a great experience year after year.

Prairie Fire Theater is coming to Sibley

Starting January 28th, directors with Prairie Fire theater will be coming to work with students in grades 3-5 on this year's production of Alladin.  Permission forms have gone home.  If you have questions about this great opportunity for kids, please call the school. Their week culminates in two performances at our middle school and it is truly an amazing experience that we are thankful our PTO continue to support. 

PTO updates

Starting January 16, 2013 at will be our Wednesday Morning Reading Club.  This is an opportunity for students at Sibley to have a book read to them.  Several changes and new ideas are underway, so we hope kids take advantage of this time.  If you have specific questions, give us a call but look for more information as the program develops further.

Sibley Game Night will be January 25th in our gym.  Try your hand at bingo, or even Minute to Win It games. Getting school families together is important and we look forward to having you and your child attend.  

Also, mark your calendars for February 22 as Sibley's Fun Night.  More information will be forthcoming, but it is a great opportunity for our families to get together for lots of prizes, games, and conversation.

TOY - Teacher of the Year

Every year, you have an opportunity in district 241 to nominate that special teacher that has had an important impact on you and your child.  Currently, nominations are being taken and a nomination form can be found on our building website by clicking here.  These nominations are due January 25, 2013.  Thank you for taking the time to consider nominating one of these outstanding individuals.

K-2nd Grade Concert Clarification

This year, Sibley students in grades k-2 will present their version of The Mitten by Jan Brett for their December Concert at Albert Lea High School.  Please know that this concert is scheduled for December 18th, not December 11th as has been printed in the school calendar.  We apologize if this has caused some confusion.  Start time is 6:00pm and the doors to the auditorium will open for seating at 5:30pm.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Conferences are Coming. . . 12/6, 12/7, and 12/10

Last week before the Thanksgiving break, families of Sibley students were sent their conference date and time.  Students were asked to detach and return confirmation of the date and time listed for them.  If you did not receive this, please contact the school.  If you did, please remember to return, or contact the school if you have questions about the time you have been given.  This year, our report cards fall in line with conferences. Therefore, your child's progress and report card will be made available to you during these conferences in December.  One of the goals of your conference is for you to have a sense of where your student's academic and social progress lies.  We want to spend time with you developing a plan that will help in areas that are lower than we would want, and celebrate the areas of success.  Personal goal setting is something that just about every student at Sibley does in some form or another with their teacher.  We need you to be a part of this goal setting plan, so that you can also support your child at home. I hope to see everyone at conferences.  Thank you.
